A VIGIL TO REMEMBER THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARCHBISHOP OSCAR ROMERO’S ASSASSINATION BY SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS (SOA) GRADUATES
SINCE 1946 THE SOA/WHINSEC (Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) HAS TRAINED LATIN AMERICAN SOLDIERS AND IN TURN GRADUATES FROM THIS FACILITY HAVE COMMITTED HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES THROUGHOUT CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA FUNDED BY YOUR U.S. TAX DOLLARS. Announcing the Inaugural AntiCapitalathon April 23-25

From April 23rd through 25th, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) will hold their annual spring meetings in Washington, DC. The IMF/WB are responsible for saddling struggling economies with unmanageable debt, driving billions into deeper poverty through the imposition of (badly misnamed) “poverty reduction” programs, and threatening countries who refuse to follow their austerity programs with
economic blacklisting and isolation.

U.S., French, & UK Imperialist Hands off Niger!

In Niger human rights organizations, trade unions, and opposition parties (including the Niger Party for Democracy and Socialism) are all supporting the coup. 10,000 people rallied in support on February 20th.

Meanwhile the US, France, UK, UN, and African Union all have been quick to condemn the coup.

Tandja did the bidding of U.S. imperialism. Meanwhile, according to the UN Development Program’s 2006 Human Development Index, Niger is the poorest country in the world. Sixty percent of the population lives on less than a dollar a day, life expectancy is only to 45-years old, and adult illiteracy is 71%.

The War in Mexico

The anti-war movement in the United States has failed to respond to the war in Mexico. Mainstream media have only reported isolated stories of exceptional violence, promoting fear in racist tones.

Barefoot Host Dawn Zuppelli Detained at Canadian Border

Rochester Indymedia journalist, Dawn Zuppelli, was interrogated and detained for over an hour by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) on her way to cover protests at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC. Upon arriving at customs at the Vancouver International Airport, she and her colleague Ted Forsyth, also with Rochester Indymedia, were asked the obligatory questions as to why they were coming to Vancouver. Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
