Photos from Rally and March Against Police Brutality July 26 2012

Submitted by AlBrundage on Fri, 2012-07-27 10:21

Citizens concerned about police violence again took to the street to draw attention to recent incidents.  The march took place on the sidewalk; the city denied a permit.  At least one person was arrested for writing in chalk on pavement at City Hall.  The action was in response to the arrest of 18 peaceful protesters at a march on Saturday on East Ave, an unprovoked violent attack on a house party on Sunday and several arrests at the Puerto Rican Festival.

European Central Bank reduces interest rate to record low

Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2012-07-07 03:41

The European Central Bank has cut its interest rate to .75 per cent a record low. This was in line with expectations as the Bank tries to stimulate the economy by lowering rates. The rate paid on money other banks place in the central bank overnight has been reduced from .25 per cent to zero!
The Bank of England approved an injection of 78.1 billion U.S. into the UK economy. The bank kept the interest rate at .5 per cent. Up to now the Bank has injected 325 billion pounds into the economy through quantitative easing.

Anti-Muslim Bias in Manuals Embarrasses FBI

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has said it has discontinued a lecture that taught counterterrorism agents that mainstream Muslims were violent.

The move comes after leaked documents revealed the controversial elements in the FBI's training manuals.

According to the FBI documents: Most American Muslims are likely to be sympathisers to "terrorist" groups like al-Qaeda.

Spencer Ackerman, the journalist who broke this story for the website Wired dot com, told Al Jazeera why the FBI teachings are "constitutionally dicey".
