The Nigeria Labour Congress called for a four day general strike to protest fuel price increases. The first day (Monday) was peaceful according to the Guardian Nigeria, with complete country-wide shut down. The general strike demonstrates successful resistance to the attack on working class and poor Nigerians represented by fuel price increases in one of the world's most oil-rich countries. And it is also worth paying attention to the ongoing popular resistance in the Niger Delta (with leadership by poor women in communities exploited by oil multinationals).
