Angela Davis to Speak at SUNY Brockport
Human rights activist Angela Davis will speak at SUNY Brockport on Friday, April 25, at 4:00 pm in the Blue Room of Edwards Hall. Her topic is “Civil and Human Rights: Future Trajectories.”
Dr. Davis was a Philosophy professor at UCLA when she was discharged for her involvement with the Communist Party. She later ran for U.S. Vice-president with that party. As an advocate for black prisoners her support for the Soledad Brothers resulted in her name on the FBI’s most wanted list. She was arrested and acquitted by an all-white jury. Currently Dr. Davis is a highly respected author and speaker on behalf of the oppressed in the U.S. and abroad.
This lecture is sponsored by Women's Center, the Women's Studies Organization, Brockport Adult Student Organization, Brockport Students Against War, the Organization for Students of African Descent and the History Forum. It is free and open to the public.
