Anti-War Rally + Critical Mass

This Friday's Rally + Critical Mass (This Friday)
This Friday at 4pm, the Rochester Campus Action Network is asking that anyone and everyone converge on the Liberty pole for a public demonstration against the occupation of Iraq, and in solidarity with the calls by Iraqi people to have true democracy and real liberation. The war is not over, and now the stakes are more drastic than ever: a repeat of colonialization?
We will be having speakers and music for an hour and a half until 5:30pm, when RCAN is hosting Rochester's Critical Mass bike ride. Critical Mass is an event where everyone brings out their bicycles and takes to the streets to show that there is a widely available alternative to gas-guzzling cars and SUVs (those mean machines that use loopholes to evade emissions laws). We all know by now one of the main causes in this war is the oil fields at stake in Iraq and the private contracts Dick Cheney's old company, Halliburton, has to help steal (oops, I meant "revitalize") resources. We will proceed en masse from the Liberty Pole along a determined route that will be explained before we begin.
There will also be a Critical Thrash component leaving at 5:30, made up of skateboarders and inline skaters, along a predetermined route. Please invite all your friends for either ride!
We have seen a declining number in attendance and hope all you wonderful people have not given up hope. The weekly rallies coincide with hundreds of thousands of other people demonstrating across the United States, as well as the people worldwide (either striking, demonstrating, or using other means of protest). We function as a piece of the greater picture, please don't let Rochester's hope wane!
If you are interested in coming early at 3pm, RCAN and Rochester's Cop Watch program are hosting Freestyle Fridays. We will have music and a beat for anyone interesting in freestyling or speaking, as well as literature about our organizations and what we're doing.
