PRESS RELEASE-Students Take To The Streets In DC In Protest of the Iraq War

For Immediate Release Rochester Students for a Democratic Society March 18t, 2010 Students Take To The Streets In DC In Protest of the Iraq War On March 19th Rochester Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) will be participating in a mass march in the nation’s capital in protest of it being the seventh year of US military occupation in Iraq. This march will be in the same vein as those that have taken place in Rochester three times over the past year called Funk the War, a roving dance party that takes to the streets. Over the bass beats and boom boxes we make it known that we stand firmly against any and all forms of imperialistic war and occupation and demand the return of all troops from the Middle East. Our demands: 1) We demand money for jobs and education instead of war and occupation, budget cuts to the Rochester City School District budget being an example of this. 2) We demand that the opt-out policy that has been in place with the Rochester City School District be overturned. 3) Finally we demand the complete demilitarization of our schools, permanently removing military recruiters from within their walls. Removing recruiters from schools will prevent our students from being lied to and enticed into seemingly lucrative deals only for them to find out that those promises are utterly false. We stand in solidarity with the anti-war vigil that will be held on March 21st that will be held in Rochester. We say that this war was never a “just” war but simply a war for regional domination. There is no military solution. There never will be a military solution. Troops out now!
