U.S. Election 2012- Stewart Alexander: Media Creating an Obama, Perry Race
Primary tabs
With all the media attention, Rick Perry is probably the least qualified of all the Republican presidential candidates to head the Republican Party’s ticket for president. His lack of leadership as a governor is only rivaled by Obama’s lack of leadership as president, according to Stewart Alexander. “To create a presidential race, the U.S. corporate media is creating more focus on style, rather than substance, and Perry has a very poor record as the Governor of Texas.â€

With less than fourteen months before Election Day 2012, the election is shaping-up as a President Barack Obama against Republican Governor Rick Perry race for the White House. Early indicators are now revealing that President Obama will run on the Democratic ticket unopposed and Governor Perry is leading his Republican challengers in most polls.
U.S. Presidential Candidate Stewart Alexander says Governor Perry is a U.S. “corporate media†creation. “Since announcing his candidacy for president, Governor Perry has received more than double the media coverage of the other Republican candidates; even Fox News has turned the cameras away from Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney to cover Perry’s campaign.â€
Governor Rick Perry entered the field of Republican presidential candidates only weeks ago and he is already holding a commanding lead over most of his Republican rivals. Rick Perry is drawing strong support from many conservative Republicans and Tea Party supporters.
In the race for the White House, the U.S. media is shaping the winners and losers for the Republican presidential ticket. Rick Perry has not estimated how much he will spend on his campaign; however, it is estimated that President Obama will spend more than $1 billion dollars to win re-election in 2012.
In less than three years, President Obama has taken the U.S. economy from bad to worse; unemployment stands at 9.1 percent and Obama has failed to deliver on his promise to create good paying jobs; one in six American are now living in poverty. Obama has taken the nation deeper into debt to protect big corporation and banking interests, and now the president is offering another weak jobs program that is destine to failure. The president has eased regulations aimed at protecting the environment; his policies will only benefit big corporations. Alexander says “If the media focused on Obama’s poor record, he would be a one term president.â€
Governor Perry’s record is equally as damaging. According to the Washington Times, “Over the last decade, Perry doubled the state’s debt from $12.7 billion in 2001 to $34.08 billion in 2009. Texas is last in: percent of non-elderly women with health insurance, percent of pregnant women getting prenatal care in the first trimester, workers’ compensation coverage, per capita spending on mental health, and nearly 26 percent of Texas’ children live in poverty. Perry just slashed the state’s budget, which will kill 100,000 jobs. Most of those fired will be public sector workers, such as teachers.†Alexander says “Perry’s record as a governor is a campaign disaster.â€
Election 2012 will be the most consequential election in the past 150 years. It will greatly impact global politics. The majority of American voters are searching for more than Obama or Perry, Democrat or Republican, promises and hope, or a choice between two evils. In 2012, Americans will be voting on pocketbook issues and the future direction for the nation. With so much riding on the next election, the independent media and social media may be the only sources to receive reliable information regarding the nation’s future leadership in Washington.
