Foundation Launches Worldwide Assault on Drugs

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World has launched a massive strike against drugs with the distribution of hundreds of thousands of The Truth Against Drugs educational booklets in major cities across the US, Europe and over 100 cities worldwide.

In 2012, local teams of volunteers handed out more than 45,000 booklets throughout the Tampa Bay area, providing thousands of youth and adults with the valuable information.

Geared towards reaching every level of society the Truth About Drugs is a series of pocket-sized, research-based booklets refined through more than 20 years of community drug prevention activities conducted by members of different churches and other volunteer organizations participating in the "Say No To Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign activities.  The booklets are available in 22 languages.

The long-running "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign has been carried out in 60 countries over the past 20 years, with 21 million Truth About Drugs booklets distributed, 280,000 billboards and posters, 98,000 public events and 3.4 million individuals pledging to be drug free.

"It's great to get out and make a difference in your community," said Julieta Gil, the local coordinator for the group.  "It's also very encouraging to know that so many people are working together to spread the truth about drugs in our community.  By getting this information out there, we can save many lives.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped."

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. For more information or to order free copies of the Truth About Drugs booklets go to: www.drugfreeworld.org.

And for the person with a drug problem, there are real solutions to addiction.  Narconon, a drug rehabilitation program that utilizes the methods of L. Ron Hubbard, has a success rate of more than 75% (www.narconon.org).

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
